Cultural Codes and Women

Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a member of Qatar Foundation, participated in the Fifth International Summit on Women and Justice held in Istanbul. The event was organized by the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Social Services of Turkey on the 4th and 5^th of November 2022 under the theme “Cultural Codes and Women”. This summit discussed the norms and the world of women in their cultural, social, and family dimensions, produced by different cultures in the modern era while sharing life experiences that contributed in one way or another to the process of building these standards.

Dr. Sharifa Noman Al-Emadi, Executive Director of the Institute, gave a presentation on women’s empowerment in the context of the family, stressing the importance of the “familism”, which contributes to supporting all family members, adding as an example that “family-based social protection builds a platform that ensures children, women, men and the elderly receive all the support they need in addition to managing the challenges they face, no one is left behind, which is the central and transformative promise of the 2030 Development Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
